A missing bolt, an unsealed cable entry or a worn gasket may not look urgent. Each can compromise the protection an enclosure was certified to provide.
Two inspection cycles prevent most failures.
Visual inspection Every 4 months
- Mechanical damage, cracks and corrosion
- Cable glands are tight and entries are sealed
- Cover bolts are present and secure
- Glass windows and wire guards are intact
- No undue vibration
- Oil levels in oil-filled enclosures
- Nameplates and tags remain legible
Routine maintenance Every 8–12 months
- Test switches, MCBs, ELCBs and reset knobs
- Check terminal and earth-connection tightness
- Replace defective lamps and blown fuses
- Inspect and replace deformed gaskets
- Remove rust and corrosion without files or abrasives
- Re-test insulation resistance after work
- Protect flame paths from metallic tools

A missing bolt or open, unsealed entry is enough to compromise an explosion-proof enclosure — regardless of how well it was originally specified.
